Ton Duc Thang University opened TDTU Games 2024

On March 9, 2024, TDTU Games 2024 was officially opened at Ton Duc Thang University’s Sports Complex.

TDTU Games is an annual event to promote the movement of physical training and playing sports followed by the example of great Uncle Ho, to encourage sports habits among students as well as to select and nurture sports talents for national and international tournaments. This is also an event to celebrate the 78th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day (March 27, 1946 - March 27, 2024) and the 49th anniversary of the Day of Southern Liberation for National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2024).

 TDTU Games 2024 takes place from March 9, 2024 and lasts until May 12, 2024, with the participation of nearly 1,700 student athletes from 16 faculties competing in the following subjects: basketball, badminton, taekwondo, table tennis, modern dance, chess, tug of war, football, swimming, marathon. These are sports loved and actively practiced by all TDTU students, which is clearly shown by many prestigious medals and awards for Vietnamese sports that the students have achieved.

Recently, at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32), the Vietnamese Sports Delegation, TDTU students and alumni excellently contributed 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 2 bronze medals to the overall achievements of the Vietnam Taekwondo Team, as follows:

Student Pham Dang Quang: Gold medal in the 63kg Kyorugi;

Student Nguyen Thi Mong Quynh, alumnus Chau Tuyet Van, alumnus Hua Van Huy:  5-person Team Gold Medal in Freestyle Poomsae;

Student Le Tran Kim Uyen: Silver Medal in Mixed Pair Recognised Poomsae, Bronze Medal in Women’s Team Recognised Poomsae;

Student Nguyen Thi Kim Ha: Bronze Medal in Women’s Team Recognised Poomsae;

Besides, in the 2nd National Student Seven-a-side Football Tournament 2023, with a determined spirit, TDTU Men’s Team tried to stick close, defended and had offensive and powerful shoots, bringing a thrilling and dramatic match, and eventually, officially became the Champion in the Final of the 2nd National Student Seven-a-side Football Tournament 2023.

At the 2023 National University Championship Basketball (NUC Basketball), Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) women’s basketball team excellently won the Southern Regional Championship and made its mark in the National Finals with the runner-up position.

Over the past 5 years, the University has maintained and developed sports clubs as well as physical movements and activities in many different forms. As a result, the University’s students have won many medals at the world, regional and national levels, including 19 Gold Medals, 10 Silver Medals, 16 Bronze Medals at the world level; 08 Gold Medals, 07 Silver Medals, 12 Bronze Medals at the regional level; 79 Gold Medals, 53 Silver Medals, 78 Bronze Medals at the national level. In 2023, the Seven-a-side football team won the Gold Medal in the National Student Football Tournament. Basketball team won the Gold Medal at the Ho Chi Minh City Student Basketball Tournament, Gold Medal and Bronze Medal at the National University Championship Basketball - Region 3, and Silver medal at the National University Championship Basketball.

With the motto “A healthy body is the foundation for a strong mind; A healthy body and mind are the foundation for freedom”.  TDTU student athletes are always given the best training conditions to comprehensively develop both mind and strength in the University’s Sports Complex and 2-star FIFA standard stadium, basketball court, gym, yoga room, 3D golf simulation room. It can be seen that the contributions of athletes not only bring the achievement meaning for TDTU, but also the “steel” spirit as well as the enthusiastic effort to compete have inspired many fans, bringing pride for our country’s sports.

Ton Duc Thang University Games is held annually to promote the movement of physical training and playing sports well in the spirit of “Physical training for everyone, following the example of the great Uncle Ho”. The event also encourages sports habits among students as well as select and nurture sports talents for national and international tournaments.
