Another fall returns
At 18:30 Monday, September 10th, 2018: Milk flowers began to smell in space.
On three consecutive days (September 8, 9 and 10) I’ve smelt the fragrance in the air; and smiled on my own: another fall again! I do not know if autumn is coming to me, or I am coming back to it.
When I was in 6th grade, my brother used to read to me Dinh Hung's "Cảm Thu" (Missing the fall) on a summer night. After several times, I absorbed it from that time! This afternoon, I smiled on myself for a moment. The casuarina hedges along Ong Bay canal reminds me of:
"This year I am back on this quiet road!
Listen to the leaves falling on the grass.
The green Willow trees are as sad as the imperial maids in the old time;
and in someone’s garden flickering rose mallows are in the full bloom in the morning as a young soul!.... "
It is lame to associate the casuarina hedges with the willow trees by the lake. However, from the feeble sun beam at the end of the day remaining in the clouds and the campus has just lighted up like this afternoon, the casuarina hedges along Ong Bay canal also had the shape of willows as if a slender girl (Liễu) had been brushing her hair in the autumn wind.
Probably because the campus is too green; green every day; No one noticed how many yellow leaves were falling; and so, could not feel the fall coming through the "rustling of the leaves"; the only feeling of fall is coming when the smell of the milk flowers starts to spread here and there.
There is only one Milk flowers tree in this immense campus. The aroma of the milk flowers reasonably becomes a “lonely autumn melody in a deep soul of someone!”. I do not know how much memory and autumn melody have come to people when the aroma of this flower adventures in the wind and wanders through the buildings.
My desire is that let's temporarily leave computers, forget smartphones or music players; or interconnected telecommunications to step out, breathe the fresh air of the campus, look at the grass-flowers and feel with the aroma of the milk flowers, the scents of heaven and earth coming from the autumn wind.
