Seminar on scientific measurement and university rankings
On December 22nd, 2018, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) organized a seminar on scientific measurement and university rankings with the participation and presentation of many professors and experts in the field of university governance and scientific measurement.
The two main contents of the Seminar include scientific measurement and university rankings which had been exchanged openly by experts. As the Chair of the seminar, Prof. Nguyen Van Tuan presented 03 valuable speeches, drawing the attention of all delegates: "The benchmark for the evaluation of scientists"; "Analysis of university ranking systems in the world"; and "How to assess the title of university professor". These are important issues of developing scientific research in particular and university development in accordance with the world’s standards in general.
With the experience in scientific research management, Dr. Le Van Ut and Prof. Nguyen Thoi Trung of TDTU presented the reports on "How to use the Web of Science database (ISI)"; "The reality of scientific measurement analysis in Vietnam"; and "Evaluation of scientific research proposals". These reports provide delegates to the conference on core issues in scientific research management and evaluation of research proposals from TDTU's work and review committee of the national scientific projects of Vietnam.
Two guest speakers - Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Ho Chi Minh City National University with the paper titled "Issues in the application of the world’s ranking systems to Vietnam", and Prof. Nguyen Huu Duc, Hanoi National University, with the presentation on "The mission of the universities in Vietnam in the 4.0 era" have brought to the Conference other perspectives on the development and ranking of Vietnamese universities.
This full day seminar has achieved an important goal of sharing experiences on scientific research development and proposed to everyone to think more about a university ranking model which is suitable to the actual situation in Vietnam.
